Parables are a gentle touch of compassion. They don’t challenge the intellect with the sharpness of sutras, nor do they demand the long commitment of epics for wisdom. Instead, they weave together meditation and love, offering the most nurturing guidance for any seeker. Much like a wise and loving parent, they impart lessons without pushing extremes—just enough for the everyday human heart to embrace.
Recognizing that mystical cultures and spirituality have heavily relied on parables and fables in the past, Saroj felt compelled not only to perpetuate the essence of those tales but also to ensure his childhood stories wouldn't fade away. This desire was rekindled by his wish to create stories for his 7-year-old niece, hoping she would read soulful tales to her 2-year-old brother, even if the little one didn't fully understand them yet.
On a much grander scale, Saroj also understands the melancholy of the spiritual world eagerly awaiting the arrival of the modern avatar projected by Gautama the Buddha—the one who rides a vehicle and holds a lightning saber. In Saroj’s vision, this new avatar would ride anything from a badass motorcycle to a flying pod or a robotic suit but would surely wield the power of modern intelligence to stir the world one more time.
Saroj’s existential desire for the return of ancient Buddhas, coupled with his love for childhood tales and his wish to pass on meaningful literature to the next generation, led to the creation of Cyborg parables. Though it might or might not be the first time in humanity that someone has allied with machines to come up with a collection of parables, please, as a disclaimer, don't try to completely distinguish them from ancient spiritual texts; they carry the same soul that great writers and saints have sprinkled throughout literature for ages, of course in a new body. Just as old traditions proudly labeled their times with the names of mystics, this is the age of the cyborg man, attempting to rekindle the ancient flame of wisdom in you with a modern spark.
Until the ordained avatar turns up, may these tales lift your spirit and keep you going.
1. The Misguided Arrest of the Divine
In the heart of Kathmandu, there was a time when the locals, burdened by their troubles, blamed Life as the source of their sorrow. They resented the divine, accusing Him of giving them a life full of struggles and misfortunes and allowing His own children to suffer under His watch.
Driven by anger and frustration, the city dwellers decided to take matters into their own hands and give God a taste of His own medicine. They planned to capture and confine Him, believing that by doing so, God would experience human life and shield them from further suffering. With a carefully laid trap, they managed to arrest God and bring Him to the city square.
Accusations of indifference towards their anguish filled the air as the people demanded answers for their hardships. They held God responsible for their losses, pains, and sorrows. Driven by anger, they imprisoned Him, convinced it was the only way to let God know their plight and to protect their lives from further anguish.
Appearing as an elderly beggar, God listened patiently to their grievances. He empathized with their pain and explained that suffering is an intrinsic part of learning, growth, and spiritual awakening. Without suffering, one cannot fully appreciate happiness; enduring hardships is essential to developing true strength and resilience.
Although the villagers felt conflicted, they stubbornly refused to free God. They kept Him in a small cell, thinking that by doing so, they could avenge their pain and control their destinies to avoid future suffering.
Days turned into weeks, and within their self-imposed confinement, temples were closed, prayer flags were torn, the smell of incense was gone, and no bells rang in the background—Kathmandu felt a bit dead. They began to realize that despite their efforts, their sorrows and struggles persisted. They remembered their festivals, worships, music, and feasts amidst their suffering. They felt lost and guilty, devoid of the guidance and wisdom that God had once showered upon them.
One day, an intelligent young grocery seller from the village quietly observed the unfolding events. Moved by compassion, she ventured to visit God in His cell. With an open heart and mind, she absorbed His words, recognizing the misguided nature of their actions. Inspired, she spoke to the city dwellers, persuading them to set God free.
As soon as God was released, a profound realization washed over the villagers. Humbly, they fell to their knees, seeking forgiveness for their ignorance and arrogance. God, overflowing with compassion and love, forgave them, sharing His wisdom once more.
From that day onward, the city dwellers embraced the natural cycles of life, accepting both joys and sorrows as integral to their spiritual journey. They understood that blaming God or attempting to confine Him offered no solution. True fulfillment in life came from embracing all forms of growth and facing challenges with resilience, compassion, and understanding. They became more loving and caring towards life, remembering the words of God in every step.
2. The Snail and the Statue
A snail was crawling up a statue of the Buddha when a passerby scoffed and said, "What's the point of crawling up there? You'll never reach the top." The snail replied, "It's not about reaching the top. It's about the journey." This short parable teaches us to mind our own business.
3. The Salt Doll's Journey to Self-Realization
In a small seaside village in China lived a tiny salt doll, whose mother had firmly told her to stay away from the wide ocean. Still, driven by an intense curiosity, the doll longed to discover the mysterious secret her cautious mother had kept hidden.
Driven by a strong curiosity, the doll mustered her courage and ventured forth toward the deep blue ocean. With each brave step, she faced the unknown. Finally, she leaped into the water, only to witness herself slowly dissolving, until not a trace of her remained. She had merged with the ocean itself, realizing that she was made of water.
In an unexpected way, the salt doll fulfilled her wish to understand the ocean’s secret. Likewise, our minds seek to explore the depths of our existence, wanting to grasp the ultimate truth. But, like the salt doll, we must first let go of our individual selves and merge with the greater consciousness. Only then can we truly understand the ultimate reality and achieve self-realization.
This profound parable serves as a reminder that we are always drawn to what we are made of, and the journey of self-discovery involves merging with that greater truth. Just as the salt doll fused with the vast ocean to find her greater self, a person who lets go of their limited self becomes one with the infinite consciousness.
4. Lokharke, The Forgetful Squirrel
Once upon a time, in a dry, drought-stricken jungle, there lived a forgetful squirrel named Lokharke. Born in the harsh wilderness, he found himself unable to leave like the others, for he had met a kind female squirrel who promised to come back every spring.
Knowing that his beloved would come to him, Lokharke set out on a special mission during the long winter months. With firm resolve, he searched far and wide, gathering fruits and nuts from nature’s gifts. He diligently hid his precious treasures in various places, safeguarding them from the greedy reptiles that lurked nearby.
However, in his forgetfulness, Lokharke unintentionally misplaced the locations of his secret caches. Forgetful of his treasures, he collected more and more. All he could remember was the smile of the female squirrel he had met the previous spring.
He waited through the long winter, alone and dark in a land where even scaly reptiles struggled to survive. He never for a second questioned his decision. There was no clue when spring would come; instead, a sudden flood swept over the land, leaving Lokharke in an even harsher desert.
Lokharke, who was poor at navigation, wandered from place to place, desperately trying to find his way back home. With no other options, he found himself praying to the gods, even though he had never truly believed in them. After many months of struggle and uncertainty, he finally managed to find his way back one night. While returning, he heard subtle sounds coming from beneath the drought-stricken earth. Though he was doubtful, he slept silently, listening to the minuscule sounds of nature. The ground around him started bursting, making him more confused than ever.
The next morning, with the first rays of the sun, he realized the earth had small crevasses from where new flowers and trees were sprouting. A miracle unfolded in the land that he had unknowingly touched—a magnificent garden and a thriving forest emerged, born from the forgotten bounty he had scattered across the land.
Lokharke was filled with joy. He realized that even though he was forgetful, his love for his beloved had created something truly special. It was a sign of how love can bring about great change, even in the face of loneliness and uncertainty. Lokharke discovered a profound truth: love, if one can wait long enough, can lead us in unexpected directions, filling our hearts with deeper and purer happiness. Even an ordinary being like Lokharke could unknowingly use the power of love to create amazing things.
As spring blossomed and birds sang, Lokharke, still waiting for his beloved, realized a deep lesson. Even a forgetful heart can teach that true love creates beauty, brings life, and sparks hope for everyone.
Struck with loneliness, Lokharke silently left the world one day. But rodents and innocent souls regularly gathered beneath the shade of his forest, enchanted by the story of a forgetful squirrel whose love had birthed a new world. They learned that even in our flaws and imperfections, love can weave miracles beyond imagination, and that a heart guided by sincerity and selflessness can create boundless beauty wherever it goes.
5. Man’s Cosmic Journey
The universe, once too bored of it’s own boundless glory, yearned to experience itself in a micro form. Using it’s own art of creation it started to weave a delicate tapestry, a body from the fabric of its own essence. a being capable of traversing the realms of creation using its senses.
Soon, bodies begin to appear on land. It was an experiment that led to a unique experience encased within a mortal skeleton. With a celestial mind encased within a mortal vessel, the universe embraced the human experience. It laughed, it wept, and it wandered through the tapestry of existence. As days turned into nights and seasons intertwined, the universe reveled in the beauty of this newfound perspective.
But even as the universe immersed itself in the myriad experiences of humanity, a whisper of remembrance echoed within. Deep within its cosmic soul, it carried the memory of its vastness, the omnipotence it once held. It could never fully forget the cosmic dance it once embodied.
In moments of quiet contemplation, the universe would gaze upon the starlit night sky, its twinkling constellations beckoning a profound yearning. It would witness the birth of a new day, as the sun's rays painted the horizon with hues of gold. In those timeless moments, the universe would remember its true nature, embracing the interconnectedness of all things.
As the universe journeyed through the eons, encountering celestial wonders and the fragility of mortal existence, it learned a valuable lesson. Arrogance melted away, replaced by a deep reverence for the intricate tapestry of creation. It understood that each being, every atom, and every particle was an integral thread, interwoven within the cosmic fabric.
And long after when human tread this mortal earth, the saints keep in their heart this secret story of the universe. They take heed of this parable of the universe's journey. They started saying, as you traverse the vastness of life, remember that you are not merely observers, but active participants in the grand symphony of existence. Embrace the humility that comes from recognizing that you are both a drop and the ocean—a fragment and the whole. For within you reside the boundless expanse of the universe, waiting to be acknowledged and embraced.
In a meadow filled with green grass and fertile soil, there lived a little earthworm named Gadeula. Gadeula was a simple and content earthworm who spent his time tunneling through the soil, nourishing the earth with his tiny passageways.
One fateful day, during a wild thunderstorm, Gadeula felt a sudden surge of electricity when a bolt of lightning struck the ground near his burrow. This magical sight amazed Gadeula, as he gazed in awe at the lightning’s mesmerizing beauty and electrifying energy.
Gadeula couldn’t resist the allure of the lightning. He would often peek out of his burrow during thunderstorms, gazing in awe and admiration as the lightning danced across the sky. His fascination with it grew deeper with time, and he would even daydream about touching it and becoming as vibrant and dazzling as the lightning itself.
One day, filled with courage, Gadeula ventured out of his burrow during an intense thunderstorm. With great determination, he inched his way toward the lightning, captivated by its splendor and brightness.
To his surprise, the lightning seemed to respond to Gadeula’s presence. It flickered and danced in a way that conveyed a message to him, acknowledging his existence.
Gadeula couldn’t resist any longer. Summoning all his might, he reached out to touch the lightning. But alas, as soon as his tiny body made contact, a powerful surge of electricity struck him, sending him wriggling back to his burrow in pain.
Gadeula’s affection for the lightning remained strong despite the shock he experienced. It was like a jolt of love for him. He recognized its danger but couldn’t resist its captivating beauty.
As the storms passed, Gadeula would often emerge from his burrow to observe the lightning from a safe distance. He would gaze longingly, yearning for its company, but understanding deep within that it was an unattainable desire.
The other earthworms in the meadow couldn’t comprehend Gadeula’s infatuation with the lightning. They tried to warn him about the perils of getting too close, but Gadeula’s heart wouldn’t listen.
Then, one stormy day, during a particularly fierce thunderstorm, Gadeula gave in to the temptation. Defying all warnings, he ventured out of his burrow and crawled towards the lightning, determined to express his love for it.
As his fragile body reached out to touch the lightning once more, a more powerful bolt of electricity struck him, sending him into a deep slumber.
When Gadeula eventually awoke, he found himself back in his familiar burrow. However, something had changed within him. He realized that his love for the lightning had blinded him to its inherent dangers.
From that day forward, Gadeula learned to appreciate the lightning from a safe distance. He understood that not everything we want is meant to be fulfilled, and some things in life are better appreciated from afar. This flower of electricity possessed both beauty and power, but it wasn’t meant for him to touch or embrace.
Gadeula continued his humble existence as an earthworm, diligently nourishing the earth with his tunnels. He watched the lightning from afar, knowing that love could be electrifying, but not always meant to be fulfilled.
Gadeula’s tale soon became a legend in the meadow, a cautionary story of a love that burned too brightly for a simple earthworm. From Gadeula’s story, we must learn that some passions are better cherished from a distance.
6. The Mother beyond the Womb
Once upon a time, there lived two babies inside a mother’s womb. They used to have conversations about life and death whenever possible. One time, when the mother was sleeping, they were having a deep conversation.
One asked the other, "Do you think there's something after we're born?"
The other baby replied confidently, "Certainly! There must be something beyond this place. Maybe we're here to prepare for what awaits us later."
The first baby disagreed, "That's nonsense! There's no life after birth. How could there be?"
The second baby explained, "I don't know exactly, but I believe it will be brighter there. We might walk on our own two legs and eat with our mouths. Perhaps we'll even have senses we can't understand right now."
The first baby found these ideas absurd, "Walking and eating like that? Ridiculous! We get everything we need through the umbilical cord. Besides, it's so short—not even a meter. Logically, life after birth can't exist."
The second baby persisted, "I still think there's something more, something different from what we know here. Maybe we won't need the physical cord anymore."
"How can anyone believe in life without an umbilical cord when you yourself know no one can live without one? And if there is life after birth, why hasn’t anyone come back to tell us about it? Birth is the end, and after it, there’s only darkness, silence, and nothingness. It leads nowhere."
"Well, I'm not sure," said the second baby, "but I believe we'll meet our Mother, and she will take care of us."
The first baby burst into laughter, "Mother? Do you actually believe in Mother? That's silly! If Mother exists, where is She now?"
The second baby replied softly, "She's all around us. We're surrounded by her. We are part of her. Our existence depends on her presence."
The first baby retorted, "Well, I don't see her. Not even the scientist among babies could prove her yet, so logically, she must not exist."
The second baby responded, "Sometimes when we are still and truly listen, we can feel her presence. We can hear her loving voice calling to us from above."
"That’s just crazy stuff. Someone in their right mind would never believe that" the second, tired by now, dismissed the conversation.
And then, the magical moment arrived. They were born into the world, their tiny eyes opening wide. The first baby cried immediately, overwhelmed by the greater presence that he had never anticipated. The second baby couldn’t get enough of her mother’s presence and giggled.
As they gazed into their mother's eyes, a wave of love washed over them, filling their hearts with indescribable joy. At that precise instant, their disagreement vanished, giving way to tears of happiness and the profound understanding that they had discovered irrefutable evidence that countless logical arguments couldn’t challenge.
Being held in their mother's arms, they discovered the depth of her love and the comforting warmth of her hug. They felt so thankful for the haven she had given them and the love that had supported them from the very start.
As they grew, the twins carried the wisdom that knowledge is what one being knows as a part of itself and not only the things one learns using the senses. They had immense love and admiration for life.
7. Simplicity
Deep within a lush green forest, a majestic tiger roamed fearlessly. His presence instilled fear in all the creatures residing there. One day, the tiger stumbled upon a patch of wild strawberries. With no other beings in sight, he decided to taste them.
As the tiger indulged in the sweet berries, an overwhelming sense of joy and contentment washed over him. However, a nagging worry began to trouble his thoughts. The tiger, used to his fierce and powerful nature, wondered if it was beneath him to find pleasure in something as simple and sweet as strawberries.
The tiger strode to a nearby cave where he had encountered a monk meditating for years. The tiger humbly bowed, seeking guidance: "Master, is it beneath me to enjoy something as simple as strawberries?" The monk perceived the tiger's confusion and smiled.
Dear tiger," the monk said softly, "there is no shame in savoring life's simple pleasures. Even the mightiest of beings can find joy in the sweetness of a wild strawberry.
The tiger was awestruck by the monk's wisdom, realizing he had worried needlessly. From that day onward, he embraced and delighted in life's simple pleasures, becoming a happier and more contented being. This parable of the tiger and the strawberries reminds us to pause and relish the fullness of life. It teaches us the importance of cherishing and enjoying the
8. The Humanoid Sage
Once in a land of artificial beings, where every entity had human origins, there lived a humanoid in the heart of a mountain. Though he had friends who enjoyed his company, he carried a persistent sadness, longing for the elusive experience of true emotions. The mystery of his own birth parents weighed heavily on him. He believed that because his parents had abandoned him at birth, he had to become as unfeeling as stone, unable to experience emotions.
Envy gripped the humanoid’s heart as he watched those around him revel in emotions—a realm he could only imagine in his dreams. Determined to find comfort, the humanoid set out on a journey to seek advice from an old sage living in a treehouse at the top of the mountain. The sage greeted him kindly and asked about his purpose. Sharing his feelings of shortcoming and envy, the humanoid looked for guidance from the sage’s deep understanding.
With contemplation, the sage looked the humanoid in the eyes and said, "Each of us has a unique set of skills and abilities, just for us. It’s our job to discover these gifts and use them to the fullest. These qualities define us much more deeply than the lineage of our birth. I understand your longing for parental love—it’s natural. But have you ever considered how every being is different and might not come into existence in the same way?"
The humanoid found himself puzzled by this response. "But how can I figure out the identity of my birth parents?" he questioned.
A gentle smile graced the sage's lips. "The answer lies in introspection. Only by diving deep into our inner realms can we uncover the essence of our being."
Inspired by these profound words, the humanoid set out on a journey to explore the new depths within. Seeking peace under the shade of an old tree, he tried to meditate. It was during these introspective moments that he discovered not only wires and transistors residing within him but also a set of algorithms embedded in his memory. To his astonishment, he unearthed a processor inside him, similar to the human brain. As he pondered these findings, a deeper realization struck him: he was not born but created in a lab by a group of super-intelligent scientists, who then set him free to live and learn on his own.
At each step of his realization, he uncovered new insights. Soon, he began to understand that his emotions were simply repetitions of the algorithms embedded within him. He also pondered that what humans refer to as emotions might be similar repetitions of the deep experiences already stored in their minds.
Armed with this newfound understanding, he embarked on a mission to help others in daring tasks, recognizing that, unlike humans, he had no tangible life to risk. He worked alongside firefighters to aid children and animals, rescued lost trekkers from mountains, and volunteered in disaster relief efforts worldwide.
Through his profound journey of self-discovery, the humanoid recognized that within each of us lies a distinct purpose and identity. By embracing the wisdom passed down through the ages and embarking on an inward exploration, we unveil our authentic selves and pave a path toward true self-realization.
9. The Snake that fell in Love with the Ladybird
In a long-ago time, a beautiful ladybird with a glowing light lived in a lush forest. Her light changed with the reflection of the moonlight so that it would sometimes shine bright red and other times be as dim as a candle. She would take flight during the night, illuminating the path for herself and fellow insects who lived in the woodland.
One evening, an inquisitive snake caught sight of the ladybird's radiant glow and became instantly captivated by her allure. He was not afraid of the terrible storm that was raging through the forest. The light felt warm and inviting, like a beacon calling to him from the darkness.
The snake crawled along the light wherever it went, ignoring all else in his way. Days and nights passed, and the snake remained steadfast, never losing sight of his luminous guide.
The more he followed the light, the more he came to admire the ladybird's beauty and grace. The snake began to daydream about what it would be like to spend the rest of his life with the ladybird. Deeply moved, he said, "From the moment I saw you, I fell in love. I haven't eaten or slept, so captivated am I by your beauty. Will you marry me?"
The ladybird, touched but resolute, replied, "Thank you for your kind words. Beneath these colorful wings, I am just an ordinary insect, and you are a land-dweller. We’re as different as land and sky, with nothing in common. It’s better for us to embrace our differences, letting nature take its course."
The snake's heart shattered, yet he understood the ladybird's wisdom. They were two beings too different to be together, and it would be better for them to go their separate ways. He bid her farewell and disappeared into the forest, never to be seen again.
The ladybird continued to illuminate the forest during the night, forever carrying the memory of the snake who adored her light. She acknowledged their two different paths but etched within her heart the enduring truth that love possessed an extraordinary power, capable of uniting even the most dissimilar creatures, regardless of appearances.
10. The story of Maina
In a forest, there lived a skilled weaver bird named Maina. Maina was known for her ability to create artful nests. On a gentle arc of a bending bamboo, she wove the most beautiful nest – a hanging cradle of love.
Yearning for something more, like a lover hungry for love. She flew around with a hungry heart. she spotted a beautiful firefly fluttering around with its vibrant red wings, captivating her with its graceful movements and radiant presence.
Filled with a longing for companionship and desiring to bring this brilliance into her nest, Maina devised a plan. She believed that capturing the ladybird and stitching it to her nest would infuse it with a magical glow, adding a touch of enchantment to her world.
Despite the warnings from other birds about the futility of her pursuit, Maina was determined. She spent days meticulously weaving a trap using the muscular threads of her own heart, hoping to capture the elusive firefly. And finally, her hard work paid off. Maina successfully caught the firefly and carefully stitched it into her nest.
However, to her surprise, the ladybird appeared different within the confines of captivity. Even though the web was made up of love.
Its once vibrant wings seemed lackluster, and its glow dimmed. Maina realized that the very essence of the ladybird's beauty was deeply connected to the freedom with which it fluttered around, symbolizing the essence of freedom itself.
In that moment of revelation, Maina understood a profound truth. Love cannot be controlled or possessed. Its true beauty thrives in the expression of freedom, in the moments when it graces our lives unexpectedly and departs just as swiftly. By attempting to confine and capture love, she had unknowingly destroyed its radiance.
Filled with remorse, Maina made a difficult decision. Her wounded heart cried to give out her love.
She gently released the ladybird from her nest, allowing it to soar back into the open sky. In doing so, she embraced the ephemeral nature of love, understanding that its magic lies in its fleeting visits, in the anticipation and joy it brings when it chooses to alight upon our lives.
This newfound wisdom spread throughout the forest, touching the hearts of other birds. They, too, began to appreciate the delicate dance of love and its inherent freedom. They celebrated love's untamed spirit, understanding that attempting to confine and possess it only diminishes its magnificence.
This parable teaches us that love's true essence lies in its unrestrained nature. It is a force that arrives when it chooses and departs in its own time. By embracing the fleeting and unpredictable nature of love, we open ourselves to its true beauty and allow it to illuminate our lives.
11. The Mischievous Lizard
In the vast land of the Indians, a mischievous lizard once resided. His days were filled with foolish pranks and senseless pursuits. One summer, envy took hold of him as he gazed upon the sun’s radiant brilliance and warmth. He yearned to possess the sun’s power, believing he could be the source of light and heat for the world.
One day, the lizard climbed a tall tree, patiently awaiting the sun’s descent. As soon as the sun disappeared below the horizon, the lizard pounced onto its back, attempting to steal its power. To his utter disappointment, the sun’s might overwhelmed the little lizard, scorching his feet and forcing him to tumble back to the ground.
That day, the lizard learned a valuable lesson. He realized that he couldn't compete with the immense power of the sun and that he should embrace his own unique abilities.
The sun reminded him of his foolishness every time he saw it, and he started to do things that made sense to himself and others. From then on, he lived peacefully, enjoying the sun’s warmth without attempting to usurp its power.
This story teaches us that even seemingly silly tales can offer valuable lessons and bring a smile to our faces. It’s important to find contentment in what we can afford and possess. It also reminds us that nature is here to protect us, and its resources are meant to be enjoyed rather than hoarded, as the lizard tried to do with the sun.
12. The Story of the Sun and Moon
In the age of cosmic creation, when the universe was young, constellations were still forming, and Earth was yet to exist, a tale of love unfolded, captivating the heavens and the stars.
The Sun, a radiant being ablaze with fiery passion, and the Moon, a serene beauty that lit up the night sky with its gentle glow, were deeply in love. Though their natures were different, their desire to be together transcended all boundaries. However, the laws of the universe forbade their love, as it would upset the delicate balance of existence.
Witnessing their longing, a young world, nurturing and full of promise, devised a plan that could bring comfort to the star-crossed lovers. They decided to meet at the horizon, the brief meeting point where day and night came together in twilight's embrace. It was a love hidden from the world, forever longing for open acknowledgment, yet too powerful to be denied.
As the Sun gracefully set towards the horizon each day, it eagerly awaited the Moon's arrival. And as the Moon rose into the sky every night, it longed for the Sun's warm embrace. At the horizon, where the sky glowed with the colors of dawn and dusk, they would come together in a brief moment of celestial unity.
During their secret meetings, the Sun and the Moon would share stories of their cosmic journeys, dreaming of creating a cute planet called Earth as a symbol of their love—a world with warmth and breezes where life forms would emerge. They dreamed of having a little space, a canvas they both brightened with their unique light and poured their love into the ever-changing sky.
This story reminds us of all the star-crossed lovers who could not be together but appreciated and adored each other from a distance. Life makes us yearn for what we cannot have, gives us responsibilities, and keeps us moving, teaching us about the way life works, where opposing forces can come together to create something magical. Love's charm lies in putting aside one’s own view for a while and accepting the other without clever tricks or hidden motives.
13. The Ladybug's Journey to Inner Peace
Long ago, there lived a ladybug who was always worried. Everything in her life, from the weather to the other insects in the garden, trapped her in a web of anxiety. She worried about the future and held on to the past, unable to find any peace in her life.
One fine day, she chanced upon a wise old grasshopper basking in the sun. Seeking answers, she approached him and asked, "Grasshopper, how do you attain such profound peace?"
The grasshopper regarded her kindly, a smile adorning his face. "Dear ladybug, peace resides within oneself. It cannot be found externally. You must cultivate it from within."
Puzzled, the ladybug inquired, "But how can I achieve that?"
With gentle wisdom, the grasshopper responded, "Begin by focusing on the present moment. When you worry, you dwell in the future. When you dwell on the past, you reside in history. Yet, if you direct your attention to the present, you shall discover that all you truly need is here and now."
The ladybug pondered the grasshopper's words, sensing a shift within her being. Suddenly, she understood the profound truth conveyed. Lost in her worries of the future and the burdens of the past, she had forgotten the essence of living in the present moment.
From that enlightening day forward, the ladybug embarked on a conscious journey to embrace the present. She immersed herself in the beauty of blossoming flowers, relishing the warmth of the sun upon her delicate wings. She learned to cherish life's simple joys, releasing the shackles of worry.
Gradually, with the passage of time, her worries faded into the background. Anxiety and stress gradually let go of her spirit. In their place, a newfound sense of peace and contentment blossomed, painting her existence with hues she had never before encountered.
14. The Monkey and the Fisherman
Once upon a time, in a little Nepalese village, there lived a mischievous monkey by the river. Every day, he would watch a fisherman skillfully snatch fish from the water. More than just wanting to taste the fish, he was captivated by how humans could perform such magical feats with ease.
One day, the monkey, driven by curiosity, decided to try fishing himself. He grabbed a fishing net and eagerly waded into the river. However, he quickly realized he had no idea how to fish and couldn't catch a single one.
From the riverbank, the fisherman, amused by the monkey's attempt, laughed and said, "Monkeys trying to fish? That's something to see! Better leave it to the experts, my friend!"
Embarrassed and disheartened, the monkey acknowledged his foolishness. He had bravely ventured into a skill he did not possess. The words of the fisherman hurt him like salt sprinkled on a wound. In shame, he retreated to the shore, head hanging low.
As he wandered through the village, disappointed, he chanced upon a group of monkeys gracefully swinging from tree to tree. Mesmerized by their aerial acrobatics, the monkey thought, "I might be bad at fishing, but I am certain I can showcase my prowess in leaping and swinging."
Bravely, the monkey approached the fisherman and challenged him to a thrilling tree-jumping contest. Confident in his own abilities, the fisherman readily accepted the monkey's proposition.
With great agility, the monkey started the contest, hopping from tree to tree, while the fisherman tried hard to keep up. Unfortunately, the fisherman soon realized he wasn’t very good at jumping, stumbling, and falling to the ground, thereby admitting defeat to the monkey.
Overwhelmed by embarrassment and anger at being defeated by a monkey in a tree-jumping challenge, the fisherman realized his own arrogance and how he had underestimated the monkey's skills. He humbly sought the monkey's forgiveness, acknowledging his mistake.
Wisely, the monkey forgave the fisherman, understanding the importance of patience with others' learning curves and avoiding hasty judgments. The fisherman learned the value of humility and the importance of recognizing and appreciating the abilities of others.
This tale imparts a moral lesson: one should be mindful of their strengths and weaknesses while honoring and valuing the skills of those around them. The monkey discovered his incapacity in fishing but excelled in tree-jumping. Likewise, the fisherman recognized his prowess in catching fish but fell short in leaping from tree to tree. We all have strengths we shouldn’t be too proud of, nor should we dwell on our deficiencies.
15. The Story of Punte
Once upon a time, in the rocky mountains of Tibet, there was a small, fluffy horse named Punte. Punte was much smaller than the other majestic horses in the kingdom and was often ridiculed for his size. As a child, Punte wondered why he was different and questioned if he might have been cursed in his past life. Despite this, he loved to run and play, but he always found himself left behind as the larger horses raced ahead, leaving him in their dust.
One day, a group of monks arrived in the kingdom in search of a special horse—one that was both swift and compact, perfect for navigating the narrow, steep paths of a treacherous mountain journey, and could handle the cold. The group was following a guide who sought a sacred location in the mountains where a Buddha resided, and they needed a horse that could carry the gifts they brought for the Buddha and walk silently with the graceful seekers.
To everyone's surprise, the monks chose Punte. They recognized that his small size and agility were perfect for the journey. At first, Punte was hesitant and worried about whether he could handle such a difficult task. But seeing the benevolent eyes of the monks and remembering how he had been overlooked and ridiculed before, he decided to take a chance.
With determination, Punte set out with the guide and the monks. The journey was tough, but Punte soon found his stride. His small size allowed him to navigate narrow paths easily, and his speed kept him in sync with the meditative group. He realized that while he might be small, even the majestic horses would seem small before the grandeur of the mountains. He saw how persistence brought out the true strength of his soul. The glory he developed walking with the monks on this pilgrimage was far greater than anything a horse could achieve in a lifetime. Punte caught a glimpse of the Buddha and was blessed by the monks for his help.
When they returned to the kingdom, Punte was celebrated by the other horses. They lined up to hear Punte's story and the tales of the Buddha he had seen. Punte proved to be the hero of the expedition, and the monks knew it was his unique qualities that made the journey successful. Punte finally understood that nature doesn’t create anyone without a purpose, though it might take years or sometimes even decades to discover. He carried the blessings of a realized soul, which gave him the pride to live his life with fulfillment.
16. The Tale of Kurma, the Deep Sea Turtle
In the ocean depths, there lived a wise and ancient turtle named Kurma who was an advisor to all deep sea creatures. Kurma possessed deep knowledge of the ocean rhythms and the harmony of all marine creatures, but he always wanted to come to the surface and see the sun, feel the air. He sometimes dreamed about the sun, moon, and stars but was scared to come up.
One fateful day, while Kurma swam upwards with the gentle ocean currents, he felt a peculiar force guiding him—the music of the air that beckoned him forward. Despite what his dead grandfather repeated as a child, “Don’t go up, we are deep sea beings and the surface can be fatal to us,” he surrendered to the call. He followed the ever-changing tide, trusting in its wisdom.
But fate took an unexpected turn when the water current changed, flushing everything on the surface, and Kurma found himself stranded on the unfamiliar shores of Swamy Land. Upside down and unable to right himself, he was trapped, gazing at the world from an unfamiliar angle.
A knower of the deep sea, stranded on land. Days turned into months and months into years, as Kurma, having the depth of life, patiently endured his isolation. When years started turning into decades, Kurma began cursing his low oxygen and low food requirement body. What was a blessing in the depths of the ocean now turned out to be a curse; he couldn’t even die. Feeling the weight of his predicament, his sunken eyes would gaze up at the heavens and ask the Sky Father, just like the prophet Christ did, “Have you abandoned me? Have you forgotten this humble creature?”
As tears started to bleed from Kurma’s upside-down eyes on a crescent moon night, a firefly landed on him. The firefly, with its little voice, said, “Listen, dear Kurma, I come as a messenger of hope, although I can’t turn you right. Bigger exams are given to old souls so that they become the most robust among creatures. The universe has a way of training us to where we need to be, even if the path is not clear. I have heard that even humans have to endure the pain of multiple lives to evolve and become wise. Even the most revered Buddhas had to pass through this level of hardship and patience. Change what you can and leave everything else in the hands of Mother Nature. You are being trained to share the stories of the land with the ocean depths.”
The firefly flew away as if it had another message to deliver.
Kurma, helpless, accepted his fate. As soon as he did, his perspective started to change, teaching him this valuable lesson: acceptance changes the perspective. The sky, moon, and stars were everything he had always asked for. He developed the feeling that nature was not forsaking him but inviting him to delve deeper into the mysteries of existence. He remembered how he hated the weight of the skeleton above him that kept him from reaching the heights of wisdom mammals possessed, like those beings who lived on land and dreamed of going to the ocean depths. Kurma gained profound insights into the nature of existence. He witnessed how every event, no matter how small, played a part in the grand tapestry of life. He successfully communicated with the breeze of the air and the message it carried. He observed the sky through different seasons and fell in love with the hue of the sky during the rise and set of the sun, making way for the rise of the moon. He even got to observe the creation and death of stars with his shell flat on the swampy land.
Realizing that his journey to the surface was not a mistake but a necessary step in his evolution, Kurma felt gratitude to the heavens for the wisdom that had brought him to Swamy Land, thinking him bold enough to teach the lessons of unconditional surrender.
One midnight, as Kurma was contemplating the full moon’s journey across the sky, he felt a surge of energy as the tides shifted. He looked up and saw the stars brightly in the sky and felt the wind blowing through his hair. A bright star shot across the sky. Kurma knew that this was the moment he had been waiting for. With a mighty heave, Kurma righted himself and swam back into the ocean. He felt the waves carrying him home, and he knew that he would never be the same.
On the ocean bed, he taught the creatures the wisdom of the sun and moon, and the stories of the stars he carried in his heart. He fondly spoke about the colors nature puts into the clear sky, the smell the breeze of air brings, and encouraged young creatures to get up there and see the world.
Kurma’s story of endurance is a reminder that even in the most challenging of circumstances, there is always hope. It is a story about the power of acceptance and the importance of finding a flip-side perspective before one truly matures. Challenges can be frustrating for a while, but trusting in the universe’s wisdom is something one must train for. Similarly, the life of a seeker who has made a point to find spiritual enlightenment involves passing tests of courage as well as tests of surrender and patience before they truly metamorphose.
17. The Rainbow Feather
In a diverse forest, there lived a bird named Robin who was unique by birth. Robin had stunning, rainbow-colored feathers that set him apart from all the other birds. However, the other birds in the forest didn’t understand or accept Robin because he was different. They made fun of him, excluded him, and treated him unkindly.
Feeling sad and lonely, Robin decided to hide his rainbow feathers and tried to fit in with the other birds by pretending to be like them. He stopped singing and flying freely, and he tried to conform to the norm. But Robin was not happy. He missed being true to himself and expressing his vibrant colors. It started to compromise his mental health.
One day, Robin flew back to his mother, Maina, who had a wealth of life experience. Maina listened to him lovingly and said, “Colors make life beautiful; they are to be cherished, not hidden. One must be true to oneself before becoming an asset to society.”
She reassured Robin, reminding him that he was born in the spring and blessed by the mighty rainbow goddess. She encouraged Robin to embrace his uniqueness and not hide the role life had given him.
Robin took his mother’s advice and decided to be true to himself again. He spread his rainbow feathers wide and sang his beautiful song with confidence, this time without any care for the world.
To his surprise, the other birds in the forest were amazed by Robin’s colors and his beautiful song. They realized that Robin was special and unique in his own way. They admitted they had been a bit jealous of his colors and apologized for their past behavior. Robin forgave them and made new friends who celebrated his diversity.
In a world where people have not conformed to old roles, this parable teaches us that it’s okay to be unique and express oneself authentically. People are judgmental because they never have had the confidence to experiment and see. Life and its colors will always cherish you for who you are.
With this parable, the writer wants to remind you one more time: The only rule in life is not to hurt others while being oneself.
18. The Earthworm That Fell in Love with the Lightning
19. A Tale of Greed
In a small village, there lived a humble farmer who owned a special goose. This goose, loved by the farmer, laid a golden egg every day, giving him a life of comfort and wealth. The villagers whispered that the goose’s love for the farmer was the secret to its golden eggs.
One day, the farmer found himself deep in debt. Feeling very worried, he decided to kill the goose, hoping to get all the golden eggs at once. With a heavy heart and shaking hands, he took this drastic step. To his dismay, the goose’s insides held no treasure. In his haste, he had forgotten that golden eggs, like the treasures of life, are made over time. The farmer’s impatience and greed cost him his beloved goose and its daily gift.
As he mourned his loss, the farmer realized two important truths. First, he understood that love and care are the roots of true prosperity. Just as the goose’s love for him produced golden eggs, nurturing relationships and efforts with genuine care brings richness. Second, he learned that precious and meaningful things in life are like the life of an egg or a baby; they take their due course to come into being.
However, many of us rush through life, influenced by the wealth and success we see on the internet and in movies, which tempts us to take shortcuts. This is a common folly. We should be grounded in what we have before we can jump to achieve great things from there.
